E.J. Dionne and Dr. Kevin Fickenscher Are Scheduled to Speak at Jefferson Society Global Futures Summit
Jefferson Educational Society, Global Futures Summit, November 11 – 13
A renowned American journalist and the Executive Vice President of International Healthcare for Perot System are scheduled to speak at an upcoming Jefferson Society Global Futures Summit hosted by the Jefferson Educational Society and sponsored by several local businesses and organizations.
E.J. Dionne, a well-know international journalist and political commentator, and Kevin Fickenscher, M.D., are scheduled to speak as part of the Jefferson Educational Society’s Global Future Summit, November 11th – 13th in Erie, Pennsylvania.
E.J. Dionne is an American journalist and political commentator, and a long-time editorial columnist for The Washington Post and New York Times. His syndicated columns appear in more than 100 newspapers in the United States and abroad. In his columns, as well as his appearances as a commentator for National Public Radio, ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos and NBC’s Meet the Press, Dionne demonstrates the keen sense of a beat reporter with the past perspective of a scholarly historian.
Dionne will be speaking on “How Will American Politics Change in the Future.” His presentation will focus on how Americans voted for change in both 2006 and 2008, but did they set a new course for the United States or are we in for an extended period of voter dissatisfaction in which the electorate moves back and forth between the parties?
Dionne is also a Senior Fellow in Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution, a University Professor in the Foundations of Democracy and Culture at Georgetown Public Policy Institute, a Senior Research Fellow at Saint Anselm College and a National Public Radio commentator. He holds a B.A. from Harvard University and a Doctorate of Philosophy from Balliol College, Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
Kevin M. Fickenscher, M.D., FACPE, serves as the Executive Vice President of International Healthcare for Perot Systems, London, England. He will be speaking on “Globalization and Virtualization: The Healthcare Reality and Possibility.”
Dr. Fickenscher has extensive experience in strategic and operational development in complex healthcare organizations. He has provided leadership for various organizations related to technology and information management, organizational transformation and development, physician management, health policy analysis, clinical quality and resource/care management, among other areas.
As physicians move to embrace clinical applications, Dr. Fickenscher’s expertise and guidance helps Perot Systems’ customers worldwide bridge the gap between the care processes of the institution and the work processes of the physicians.
Prior to joining Perot Systems, Dr. Fickenscher was national director and partner of Global Health Solutions. He also served as chief medical officer for WebMD and as a senior vice president and chief medical officer for Catholic Healthcare West and Aurora Health Care. Dr. Fickenscher was a founder of The Center for Rural Health at the University of North Dakota. He is considered to be a visionary leader in the industry.
Dr. Fickenscher graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. He is a Certified Physician Executive and Fellow with the American College of Physician Executives and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
The public is encouraged to join the Jefferson Educational Society for a rare gathering of international and local thinkers to explore and discuss the future ideas which will affect our environment, healthcare, government and technology. Following each presentation, there will be a roundtable discussion and debate in a think tank atmosphere. For more information about the event, visit www.JESErie.org
